Responsibilities
Both Glucode and yourself have the responsibility to ensure that the workplace is healthy and safe for all.
Glucode’s responsibilities
The overall responsibility for the health and safety practices at our offices lies principally with the Health and Safety committee.
It is our responsibility to:
- monitor that all health and safety standards are maintained at all times within the workplace.
- ensure that all reasonable, practical steps are taken, ensuring that working practices are assessed so that any potential hazards may be identified.
- take appropriate action against anyone who wilfully ignores instructions or procedures, which have been established in the interests of the health and safety of employees.
Your responsibilities
You are under obligation to:
- safeguard your health and safety at work, and that of your colleagues as well as any other persons who may be affected by your activities or omissions at work.
- keep yourself updated with the rules and regulations pertaining to your relevant working area, as well as any other updates and adhering to them at all times.
- immediately report all incidents and abnormal conditions within the workplace to your Head of Department
- obey all instructions given to you in terms of your normal duties and for your own safety.
- wear all all protective equipment (when required) provided to you, to enable you to decrease accidents or the seriousness of them.
- participate in all health and safety drills performed by the OHS committee.

Safe Systems of Work
All appropriate steps should be taken with the aim of ensuring that the workplace procedures and processes do not pose a foreseeable risk to the health and safety.
Maintenance activities, by their nature, involve a wide variety of hazards, many of which are well recognised and may be subject to legislative controls.
Glucode requires the demonstration of competence by those engaged in certain work activities, together with the application of written permit-to-work system.
Health and Safety Training
Health and safety training may include many specific individual requirements, but as a minimum will cover:
- Health and safety induction training for all
- Primary causes of accidents at work and their avoidance
- Legal requirements in the investigation and reporting of accidents
- Emergency procedures
- Evacuation process and may include safety drills
Occupational Health
Disclosure of medical information to Glucode requires your written and informed consent and will be subject to the appropriate legislation regarding access to such medical reports by third parties.
In order for Glucode to comply with statutory reporting, all accidents that occur whilst you are at work must be reported.
You are required to report any occupational injuries.
