BBBEE and Preferential Procurement

We believe that the development of a preferential Procurement Policy aimed at encouraging the active participation of affirmative business enterprises will ensure broader and meaningful participation and growth in the economy, and promote sustainable development by the creation of new job opportunities and general prosperity.

We give preference to suppliers and service providers who have corporate social responsibility programmes in place. Glucode has made a conscious decision to make use of affirmative business enterprises to provide services and supply us with.

This enables us to assist in the creation of job opportunities for the previously disadvantaged, and at the same time make a positive contribution towards the economy.

Supplier Code of Conduct

At Glucode, we expect our suppliers to abide and operate in accordance with our Supplier’s Code of Conduct.

We expect and require our suppliers to provide:

  • safe working conditions
  • treat their staff with dignity and respect
  • act fairly and ethically
  • use environmentally responsible practices whether they make products or perform services for Glucode.

Glucode is committed to respecting the highest standards of labour, ethical conduct, human rights, environmental conduct.

Employment Standards

Labour, Human Rights

We expect our suppliers to provide a fair and ethical workplace. Employees must be treated with dignity and respect, and Glucode suppliers shall uphold the highest standards of human rights.

Workplace and Working Hours

We expect our suppliers to provide a working environment free from harassment, verbal, visual, physical abuse and/or any behaviour that creates an intimidating, offensive or hostile workplace.

In addition, we expect our suppliers to observe local regulations on working hours. This includes ensuring that employees receive entitlement to annual leave and are permitted to, at least, one non-working day per seven days on average.

Our supplier shall follow all applicable laws and regulations with respect to working hours and days of rest, and all overtime must be voluntary.

Freedom of Association

We expect our suppliers to maintain constructive relationships with their employees. This includes observing local legislation regarding collective representation and ensuring compliance with the law.

Diversity and Equality

We expect our suppliers to reward, treat, and protect all of their employees equally regardless of race, colour, gender, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Forced and Child Labour

Our suppliers are expected to not employ any workers who are under 15 years of age, the applicable minimum legal age for employment, or the applicable age for completion of compulsory education, whichever is highest. We expect suppliers who employ juveniles (individuals younger than 18 but higher than the legal minimum age) to observe the ILO Minimum Age Convention No. 138. This ensures that juveniles do not undertake work that may put their health, safety, or morals at risk. It is also expected that juveniles will not work overtime or at night.

Remuneration and Benefits

We expect our suppliers to observe local legislations on remuneration and benefits.

At minimum, this must be sufficient to meet basic needs of employees and their families. Our suppliers should meet all legal requirements relating to remuneration and benefits, pay accurate wages in a timely manner, and wage deductions shall not be used as a disciplinary measure.

All use of temporary and outsourced labour shall be within the limits of the local and/or international law.

Health, Safety and Environment

Your safety, health and overall, well-being is important at Glucode. We expect our suppliers to provide and maintain a safe and hygienic working environment. Our suppliers should implement and practice health and safety management practices into its business operations. This would be delivered through a formal Health and Safety management system such as Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001.

Occupational Health and Safety

We expect our suppliers to regularly monitor, evaluate and manage their occupational health and safety practices within their organisation.

In addition, suppliers are expected to provide and implement personal protective equipment, safety measures and controls as well as implement emergency plans and response procedures that will minimise harm to life, environment, and property. Suppliers are expected to obtain, keep current, and comply with all required health and safety permits as required by law.

Environment

We expect our suppliers to commit to good environmental practices, such as seeking energy efficiency, responsible sourcing of materials, and reducing waste. This should be delivered via an environmental management system that meets the standards set out in Environmental Management (ISO 14001).

Integrity, Confidentiality and Intellectual Property Information

We expect our suppliers to operate to the high standards of integrity and ensure that all information shall remain confidential.

Integrity

We expect our suppliers to not engage in corruption, extortion, embezzlement, or bribery to obtain an unfair or improper advantage. Our suppliers shall abide by all applicable anti-corruption laws and regulations of the countries in which it operates, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and applicable international anti-corruption conventions.

Confidentiality

We expect our suppliers to treat any information shared during our relationship to remain confidential and never used for commercial and/or personal gain.

Protection of Intellectual Property

The Supplier shall respect intellectual property rights and safeguard customer information. The supplier shall manage technology and know-how in a manner that protects intellectual property rights.

Data Protection

We expect our suppliers to take all possible measures to protect Glucode’s personal data when accessing, transferring, processing or storing it. This includes observing all local and international legislation at all time such as POPIA and GDPR. Where an issue regarding Glucode’s personal data does arise the supplier must inform us immediately.

We expect our suppliers to retain business records pertaining to our relationship for the required amount of time, as set out in local legislation. Records should accurately and reflect all business transactions.

We expect our suppliers to return or safely dispose of any data at the end of our relationship.

Social Development and Community Developments

We expect our suppliers to help foster social and economic development and contribute to the sustainability of the communities in which it operates.

We encourage our suppliers to contribute to the social and economic development of these communities.

Communication and Training

We expect our suppliers to communicate this Code to their employees and to ensure it is fully understood.

This includes providing any necessary training to its employees to ensure full adherence to this Code.

We expect our suppliers to communicate and enforce this Code with any subcontractors and business partners who have responsibilities for fulfilling their contract with us.

Compliance with our Supplier Code of Conduct

We expect our suppliers to monitor their own compliance with the code.

This includes maintaining documentation and providing this documentation on request to show their compliance with our code.
